Treating Hip Pain & Dysfunction
About this workshop
This workshop focuses on a new technique for treating hip pain and dysfunction and draws its origins from the NAT (Niel-Asher Technique) Shoulder technique. Stuart`s insight into the hip treatment protocol was developed from applying the NAT shoulder technique over numerous years, particularly while working with high performance athletes.
After applying the principles in NAT shoulder over and over with such success, the question crossed my mind” could we apply the NAT shoulder TREATMENT PRINCIPLES IN THE SAME MANNER TO THE HIP JOINT”
Could it be that the hip also develop a generalized neurological capsular pattern of dysfunction, driven by nociceptive pain and chronic inflammation.
It's application is most effective in dealing with chronic structural dysfunction or dysfunction of acute or chronic overload, and is highly effective in dealing with the athlete whose sport requires high loads, e.g.: Soccer, triathlete, hockey, runners, weightlifters etc.
Understanding the fundamentals:
RECOGNIZING ALTERED MOVEMENT PATTERNS AND MUSCULAR IMBALANCES IN THE HIP.
Discuss the specific sequence of muscle activation involved during joint movement.
These are; Hip Extension, Hip Abduction, and Hip Rotation movement
Case study discussion to further consolidate your understanding
A brief look at some of the common structural dysfunctions which often coincide with altered hip movement patterns. This section is to bring awareness that these dysfunctions often co-exist, no structural treatment is to be demonstrated but as the hip is a weight bearing joint there will need to be a level of understanding.
TREATMENT OVERVIEW: THEORY & PRACTICE
Demonstration of the hip treatment technique:
AIS (Active Isolated Stretching) protocols
Supervised practical session learning the Neil-Asher treatment sequence under supervision
